Safeguarding Shabbat Safeguards You!
Here is a story that I heard firsthand. Solomon Katz, the owner of a successful startup was getting ready to sell it to a major corporation. Negotiations went on late Friday afternoon and the two parties were ready to close the deal. Solomon looked at the time and realized he would not have enough time to make it home for Shabbat if he remained longer. He explained to the others that he would have to leave the meeting and that they would have to continue after Shabbat.
Unfortunately, the deal fell through because it was not finalized on that Friday, leaving Solomon feeling extremely bitter. It wasn’t until a few weeks later that another offer came in, but this time the offer was double the previous one! Unbeknownst to him, the market for this particular field exploded during those few weeks. Solomon did not lose out on account of keeping Shabbat, and Shabbat even protected him from a potential major loss that he could not have known about.
Not every person who keeps Shabbat has a story with a dramatic ending, but they can serve as a reminder that taking a break to be with G-d is not something that will cause you to lose out in the long run.
